Mayah Alkhateri and Salvador Navarette’s own take on shoegaze.

It all started with a single message. After a year of online friendship, a series of voice notes from Alkhateri led Mayah Alkhateri and Salvador Navarette to start making music together. Navarette had one condition: the songs had to be sung in Arabic, never English. Without speaking the language himself, he chose takes based not on the meaning of the words, but on the emotion carried in Alkhateri’s voice. That choice became the foundation of Kiss Facility’s music. After turning heads with their 2023 debut single In My Room, the duo brought together Arabic vocals, guitars and electronic textures on their debut album, KHAZNA. Named after the Arabic word meaning ‘safe’, ‘vault’ or ‘treasury’, KHAZNA turns its attention to what is kept hidden, centring on love, liberation and lived experience. One of the album’s standout tracks, Ishara, features Aleyna Tilki.
