Istanbul Jazz Festival and Fiba Salon İKSV join forces for a programme running from October to December, keeping the jazz club tradition alive. Hosted by Ferit Odman, these guest artist nights see him share the stage with his own ensemble, through jam sessions with visiting artists and young musicians. Each night features a different line-up and takes the music in a new direction.
Guitarist, composer and arranger Cenk Erdoğan, known for his fretless guitar, and drummer and percussionist Mehmet İkiz, whose playing spans jazz, funk and pop. Together, they are Lahza.
Cenk Erdoğan has led workshops at Berklee College of Music on fretless guitar and makam in Turkish music. He has released İle, Kavis and KaraKut, the latter recorded entirely on solo acoustic guitar. He composed and arranged the music for Çağan Irmak’s film Issız Adam, for which he received the Film Music of the Year award at the 2009 Yeşilçam Awards. From Stockholm to stages around the world, Mehmet İkiz has performed with artists and ensembles including Bobby McFerrin, Joe Sample, Nils Landgren, the BBC Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic. In 2017, he was named ‘Musician of the Year’ at Swedish Radio’s Jazzkatten Awards. Lahza, their project built around improvisation, centres on guitar and drums.
Tonight, Ferit Odman joins Lahza on drums. It will be the duo’s first time sharing the stage with Odman, and Lahza’s first performance with two drummers.
