A band from Istanbul’s alternative scene that never stops breaking the mould.

Their story began with acoustic performances and led to their debut album Full Faça in 2012. Rather than staying in one place, over the years they have repeatedly torn down and rebuilt the world they created. With Fırtınayt, they plugged in and moved closer to the dance floor, while Defansif Dizayn took them into a more layered sound world spanning rock, electronica, funk and psychedelia. By creating not only their music but also their own language, characters, humour and stage rituals, they became more than a band, evolving into a universe entirely their own. With lyrics that sometimes feel as familiar as a conversation with friends and at other times strange enough to belong only to them, they sing about the absurdities of everyday life, feeling trapped in the city, love, anxiety and all the glitches that come with trying to grow up, becoming the soundtrack to a generation. Now, at Salon, they are turning back the clock for three nights, revisiting three different albums in three different concerts and returning each one to the spirit of its time.

On the third night, the calendar reads 2023: Defansif Dizayn. Taking its name from ‘hostile architecture’, the concept of designing public spaces to keep people away, the album captures one of the most layered expressions of Büyük Ev Ablukada’s relationship with the city and the struggle to carve out a place for oneself within it. Across nine tracks, from ‘Pazartesi’ to ‘Şirâze’, from ‘Kopuk Uçurtma’ to ‘Yangın Akvaryum’ with Korhan Futacı, guitars, synths, horns and grooves all mingle in the same crowd. Having passed through the home of their debut album and the dance floor of Fırtınayt, Büyük Ev Ablukada are a little older now, but still restless and strange.
